MAX:
What’s happened with ex-members of Napalm Death which played on Hatred
Surge demo back in 1984?
Barney: On the what? On the which? Oh, God! Well Nick Bullen
went to Scorn and Godflesh, and Rat the drummer, I think he’s in mental institution,
seriously he has some serious mental problems.
MAX: What is your connection with ex-members?
Barney: Just friends, very close friends. I’m friend to all
except one.
MAX: And with Lee Dorian and Bill Steer?
Barney: I’m fine with them.
MAX: Could You tell me where is Bill Steer now? After he left
Carcass I haven’t heard anything about him.
Barney: Yes, indeed, you are quite right. He is probably at
home as we speak actually.
MAX: What is he doing now?
Barney: I just heard a rumor that he has a regular HM band,
not even distorted guitars, UFO type of music. Mike Amott is back to Sweden
and he has found Spiritual Beggars and he played for my friends Deranged guest
solos, but he’s doing some weird music now.
He formed Carnage back together again, that’s what I’ve heard.
MAX: What is your opinion of ex-producers? I don’t know Colin
Richardson, Pete Coleman, Scot Burns, Paul Johnston, who is the best on your
point of view best for work?
Barney: Colin is probably the one closest to the Napalm thing
because he worked more times with us, and that isn’t insult to others. He’s
not better producer of others. Although each of those producers are good, Scot
Burns is a great producer, he have a particular sound and is also a great person,
very nice person. Pete is good friend as well, and Paul once again is a good
friend and he worked with us in a short note. I’m not gonna say one over another
they are all good friends.
MAX: I know they are all good producers but I just wanted
to know who is the bet to work with?
Barney: Colin is maybe one that is closest to Napalm.
MAX: Could you tell me something about Peel Sessions?
Barney: All that we did basically is, go in 8th hours and
you record live 10 min of music, one take and then you go, that’s all. No studios,
no anything. We have three peel sessions till now and all they are from different
periods.
MAX: Are there be another Peel sessions?
Barney: It depends if Peel wants it.
MAX: Tell me something about your major influences and what
bands do you like to listen when you were in the “old days”?
My personally influences are Motorhead, Discharge and a lots of generally
American HC and DM and European DM and HC. Celtic Frost for example, a lot of
different bands.
MAX: How pass your gig in Zagreb-Croatia?
It was very good actually it ‘s interesting nations to mention cause
we thought it would might be some touchy subjects you understand, but I guess
music rises above stupid war.
MAX: How many people were on the show, and on a tour how many
people get on concerts?
We had approximately 700 last night, average on the tour we have 600-500,
average concerts.
MAX: First clip from “Diatribes”, Grid Killing is a great
song, could we expect new single or something?
Nothing. We’re not a single band, you know what I mean we did clip and
single with some tracks on a B-side, Usually some tracks that are not on the
album. And that’s it we’re not kind of band that put out singles. I think that
Napalm, I don’t want to play a lot of singles, it’s pointless.
MAX: Grid Killing is also a great clip, where was filmed?
In a old warehouse in London with some extras and stuff like that.
MAX: Do you have some new cover songs?
No cover songs.
MAX: Last live video was Harmony Corruption back in 1990,
do you have some new live material for a new home video?
Barney: No, we got no time and Harmony Corruption was professionally
filmed and when it was released in nineties we don’t really thought about it.
We are not video like type of band, Harmony Corruption back then was the great
and there is no need for another one.
MAX: Tell me something about your favorite new releases?
Barney: At The Gates album, old Swedish band called Mob 47
just release their album on CD from 10 years ago and it’s good, al kind of stuff.
MAX: How many side-projects ‘till now members of Napalm Death
were involved in?
Barney: There is too many really to talk about. Me and Mitch
have new project in progress and with Righteous pigs, I don’t know what will
happen. Blood From The Soul, Defecation I don’t know really, I’m not involved
in any of these projects.
MAX: Is there any new side-projects?
Barney: There is one-side project that Mitch and Shane have
got, I don’t know too much about it. It’s totally different, it’s not that heavy,
it’s more Indie, almost regular Indie music.
MAX: What’s your relationship with Benediction?
Barney: It’s my old band and friends. No problems at all.
MAX: What do you think about new Cathedral album?
Barney: It’s great, it’s like Rock album, it’s funny as well,
it is humorous.
MAX: Three greatest clips?
Barney: That’s really something to think about. A have to
think a lot of time to give you my three favorite videos, ‘cause I don’t really
have that much favorite videos.
MAX: Name just a few!
Barney: Motorhead - Sacrifice and also really old one Journey
- Separate Ways it’s funny.
MAX: Could you tel me something about your jobs and your doings
without Napalm Death. I know that you are journalist of Raw mag?
Barney: Rock Hard in Germany and Raw before it fell apart,
and Select mag in England as well. I write about music and video games basically.
MAX: Mortal Combat?
Barney: Yeah, I’ve written about that.
MAX: I also know that you have one song for the compilation
soundtrack Mortal Combat...
Barney: Yes, Twist The Knife Slowly.
MAX: Are the other members like to play Mortal Combat?
Barney: Yes. I’m really big on video games and Shane. I did’t
see the movie so I pass judgement on that, I like the game for sure.
MAX: What do you think about games of Doom type?
Barney: I love them!!!
MAX: And Doom, Frankenchrist, Quake, Descent, Heretic,...
Barney: Love them, Love them,...
MAX: I’m great fanatic also but Virtual Reality gear, helmet
and stuff is very expensive. Could you tell me about your feelings, if you have
some feelings after VR games?
Barney: I’ve not playing anything with headset honestly to
tell ya it’s quite strange experience, you get disoriented.
MAX: I think it’s really chuffed...
Barney: Yeah, chuffed!
MAX: It’s your word man, cheers!
Barney: May I say something?
MAX: Say it!
Barney: Savo Milosevic!!!
